Cue: Hand signal

Description: On cue, dog will come and sit centered squarely in front of me.

Elements:

  • Behavior specifics: Centered in front of me, front feet about three inches from my toes. Competition-quality sit.
  • Duration: Up to one minute.
  • Distance: Respond to cue up to fifty feet away.
  • Latency: Immediate.
  • Locations: Everywhere.
  • Distractions: Anything and everything. Especially distractions common in a dog show or performance environment.

Training Plan: (Accomplish each level in multiple locations of gradually increasing distractions.)

  1. Shape a centered sit.
  2. Shape a close sit.
  3. Shape a perfect front.
  4. Add cue.
  5. Reduce latency.
