cue "leave it."
Description:
On cue, dog will turn head away or physically back away from
an object of interest and will stay away from it.
Elements:
- Behavior
specifics: Turn head away or physically back away from object
of interest.
- Duration:
30 seconds and during duration of any other behavior.
- Distance:
Respond to cue up to fifty feet away.
- Latency:
Immediate.
- Locations:
Everywhere.
- Distractions:
Anything and everything. Especially distractions common in a dog
show or performance environment.
Training
Plan: (Accomplish each level in multiple locations of gradually
increasing distractions.)
- Dog avoids
treat in hand for 5 seconds.
- Add the cue.
- Dog avoids
treat on couch for 10 seconds.
- Dog avoids
treat held in stranger's hand for 20 seconds.
- Dog avoids
a treat on the floor for 30 seconds.
- Avoid treats
on the floor while gaiting.
- Avoid treats
on the floor during a recall.
